Right people, welcome to 15 of my personal film recommendations for hyper specific situations.
If you happen to find yourself missing your childhood, wine drunk & sad or rethinking your entire existence and want a little 2 hour escape, have a gander at this list & enjoy my carefully (kinda) curated selection of films that I think would go swimmingly with these scenarios.
1. A film to watch when the daunting state of the world sets in & you’re spiralling into a trivial existential crisis & need reassurance that your problems are ultimately cosmically insignificant - ‘The Hunger Games’ (even make it a marathon if ur super cool)
2. A film to watch when you’re craving summer vibes & whimsy (minus the devastating ending...we’re gonna pretend it didn't happen okay ? okay great, glad we cleared that up.) - ‘La La Land’
3. A film to watch when your girls cocktail night Zoom chat is bugging bc of shitty wifi but you’re still in the mood to go partying - ‘Ibiza’
4. A film to watch when your wine drunk on a bottle & a half and missing your ex - ’Someone Great’
5. A film to watch when you miss your childhood & your biggest worry was what mum was making for dinner - ‘Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging’
6. A film to watch when you’re doing your nails & you need something fun on in the background - ‘The Lovebirds’
7. A film to watch when you’ve been working for 5 hours (or 3 mins...) and you want to reward yourself with a ‘15 minute’ break - ‘Game Night’
8. A film to watch when you & your S/O have rinsed Netflix & have now significantly dropped your movie standards to random bottom of the barrel ones - ‘Love, Wedding, Repeat’
9. A film to watch when you’re in need of some female empowerment & a reminder of how badass (fictional & non-fictional) women can be - ‘Oceans 8’
10. A film to watch to bring all your family members/ flatmates together for some quality time - ‘Crazy Rich Asians’
11. A film to watch when you want something visually & intellectually satisfying (stunning design, stunning cinematography & stunning performances. 11/10 would recommend.) - ‘Malcom & Marie’
12. A film to keep you on the edge of your seat & tie your brain in knots with the amount of plot twists - ‘Prisoners’
13. A film to watch when you’re missing the glitz & glamour of live theatre & musicals - ‘Dreamgirls’ (also can we please appreciate this incredible cast oh my god.)
14. A film to gateway your S/O into chick flicks even though they’re adamant that chick flicks are dumb (for me this one got the ‘Boyfriend Stamp of Approval’ so I can happily attest that this is the perfect gateway chickflick, you & your S/O are so very welcome in advance xxx) - ‘Friends with Benefits’
15. A film to watch when you’re in need of a good comfort laugh from a timeless classic... need I say more ? - ‘White Chicks’
